Cloud vs. On-Prem Subscription Administration and Management

After the recent GO-Global® blog post Six Reasons Why Cloud Licenses are Better than On-Premises Licenses, I was inspired to analyze the ease and technical benefits of using GO-Global cloud licenses rather than using GO-Global on-premises licenses. I will compare the process for installing and managing both license types and share my comparison below.

The difference in ease of use between cloud and on-premises licenses is primarily due to the fact that on-premises licenses are Flexera-based files identified by a Product Code and tied to the MAC address of the host on which the licenses are installed. This makes on-premises licenses extraordinarily inflexible to use as any change you make to your GO-Global implementation or your GO-Global account requires interaction with the license files.

In contrast, GO-Global cloud licenses do not require a license file. This makes cloud licenses extremely flexible because you don’t need a file to move licenses to a new host, add seats to your implementation, renew your licenses, change the host’s MAC address, upgrade licenses, etc.

Let’s look at how that fundamental difference in licensing changes the work involved in buying, updating, and managing GO-Global licenses.

Note: Use GO-Global cloud licenses, your GO-Global Application Host or Application Host Manager must be able to connect directly to the GraphOn Cloud LicenseService, cloud.graphon.com (IP address: 13.52.136.225) on port 443. Similarly, the GO-Global Activation Wizard must be able to connect directly to the GraphOn Portal, portal.graphon.com (IP address: 52.8.15.135) on port 443.

It’s pretty clear from this comparison that GO-Global cloud licenses are vastly easier to buy and use than on-premises licenses.
