Examining Citrix Pricing

In October 2022, Citrix® eliminated perpetual licensing and moved to a SaaS subscription model for all Citrix offerings. Citrix customers with on-premises deployments liked perpetual licensing because it allowed them to pay once up-front for Citrix costs relative to licensing, but as the market has moved to subscription pricing as the standard, it made sense for Citrix to do so, too.

In this post, we’ll review the current Citrix pricing for Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops™, Citrix DaaS™, and Citrix DaaS for Microsoft Azure® or Google Cloud.

What is Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops and Citrix DaaS?

Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops provides application virtualization and VDI for organizations that want to self-manage their end user computing infrastructure in a corporate datacenter. Citrix DaaS provides application and desktop virtualization for organizations that want end user desktops delivered as a service from any cloud or data center. As stated above, both deployment models utilize subscription pricing, with pricing plans for a variety of scenarios.

Citrix VDI Pricing

For organizations that want to use the legacy Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops to self-manage workloads in their corporate data center, Citrix is offering DaaS Advanced Plus as a replacement for Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops. DaaS Advanced Plus is priced at $13 per month in addition to the costs incurred by the customer to maintain, manage, and secure the corporate data center. For companies with desktops residing in a public cloud, Citrix DaaS Advanced Plus duplicates user performance and scalability features that are already available from a public cloud service.

Citrix Cloud Pricing

For organizations delivering virtual applications and desktops from Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud, Citrix DaaS Standard is priced at a $10 per month, pay as you go subscription in addition to the Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud subscription costs. This subscription is available from the cloud provider’s marketplace and also offers a yearly option.

For organizations that want employee desktops delivered as a service, with Citrix-managed end user infrastructure and security, Citrix DaaS Premium includes the features available in Citrix DaaS Advanced Plus and advanced image management tools, premium monitoring, historical reporting, advanced security, plus additional features. Citrix DaaS Premium is priced at $20 per user per month.

Citrix’ service with the highest number of added features, Citrix DaaS Premium Plus, is priced at $23 per user per month and includes all the features offered in Citrix DaaS Premium, plus performance and security analytics.

These prices are a guide only. The Citrix pricing shown in Citrix price calculator reflects a specific scenario—the monthly average MSRP per user for 500 users with a 1-year subscription.

So What Does Citrix Cost?

Citrix DaaS Advanced Plus = $13 per user per month

Citrix DaaS Premium = $20 per user per month

Citrix DaaS Premium Plus = $23 per user per month

These prices assume the monthly average MSRP per user for 500 users with a 1-year subscription

But What About Hidden Costs?

The actual price of Citrix DaaS is not simply the monthly subscription fees. Here are just a few items to consider when calculating your total cost for Citrix DaaS.

  • Does Citrix DaaS offer an optimal and secure experience for every user?
  • For Citrix DaaS, end users must install Citrix Workspace™ on their device. Does every end user device currently in use meet Workspace system requirements, or will some end users need new devices?
  • Will Citrix DaaS support business-critical legacy Windows® applications?
  • Will your current printing architecture work with Citrix DaaS, or will it need to be reconfigured?
  • Does the organization need to invest in Citrix DaaS training for the IT team?
  • For organizations that only need to deliver one to a handful of applications—for example, Windows ISVs—is Citrix DaaS “too much” technology?
