TOPIC: Network Hotsync?

Network Hotsync? 12 Years, 2 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi,
We have the Palm Desktop installed on the Go-Global server, and want to do a "network hotsync".

The only problem is that it does not synchronize.

Any suggestions?

Thank you

Palm HotSync 12 Years, 2 Months ago Karma: 0
OK, I have it working for the Local Administrator

I used COM-Port Redirection instead of a Network Hotsync. In my opinion, that is a cleaner and simpler approach.

It would be nice to have the Go-Global Cluster Manager mention that it is capable of COM port redirection, but I found the info in the forums.

Here is my procedure:

---Install Palm Desktop on Go-Global Server---
1. Log on to Go-Global Server locally.
2. Install the Palm Desktop 4.14 or higher.
3. The default install folder is c:\Program Files\PalmOne
4. Look for the HotSync Manager icon in the System Tray (lower-right hand corner, with blue and red circle)
5. Right-click on the HotSync Manager, turn off "Local USB" and check: "Local Serial" only.
6. Right-click on the HotSync Manager, Setup, Local, and note the Serial Port of COM1, speed: "As Fast As Possible"

---Publish the Palm Desktop Manager on Go-Global Server---
1. Log on to Go-Global Server locally
2. Double-click: GO-Global Cluster Manager
3. Click the "Applications" tab, "Add" button
4. Executable Path: (Note: do not use double-quotes) C:\Program Files\palmOne\Palm.EXE
5. Start Directory: (Note: do not use double-quotes) C:\Program Files\palmOne
6. Rename it to: "Palm Desktop"

---Redirect COM Ports on Go-Global Server---
1. Log on to Go-Global Server locally
2. Double-click: GO-Global Cluster Manager
3. On the menu, choose: Tools, Server Options
4. Click the "Client Access" tab
5. Check the: "Clipboard" checkbox.
6. Exit
7. At this point, you must stop, then re-start the Service:
a) Start, Administrative Tools, Component Services
b) Click: "Go-Global Application Publishing Service", Stop, then Start

---The First HotSync---
1. Make sure you finished *all* the above procedures first. Otherwise, this step will fail.
2. The First HotSync will create the new user.
3. On your local PC, right-click the HotSync Manager, and click "Exit". The icon should disappear.
This is important, or else your Palm will try to sync locally.
4. Start, Go-Global Client, Connect
5. Double-Click Palm Desktop
6. From Palm Desktop, click the menu item: Hotsync, Setup
-Click: "Available only when the Palm Desktop is Running", OK
7. Double-click Palm Desktop start it & HotSync Manager. Note: you will see an hourglass for a moment, but you will
only see Palm Desktop, not HotSync Manager. This is because HotSync Manager wants to appear in the System Tray,
but there is no System Tray in the GoGlobal client.
8. Press the HotSync button on the Palm Pilot. The HotSync will begin.
Note: the first time, you will get a message on the Go-Global client: "Create a new account on this PC?". Click: Yes.
9. You will see the "HotSync Progress" screen.
10. Note: The first HotSync will take longer if you have a lot of data already loaded into your Palm Pilot, especially if you sync over the internet. It will run faster over the local network.

Victor, I don't have a serial cable for my palm pilot. Will/how does your solution work using a usb cable?
