GG Host not starting after Win7 update 4 Years, 6 Months ago Karma: 0
Hello,

I was running Go-Global Windows Host on a Windows XP machine, without trouble. I recently upgraded the machien to Windows 7 (through a Vista upgrade so as to preserve programs and files). Now the Go-Global Application Publishing Service won't start.

I have tried reinstalling (with the latest version) without success. It doesn't seem to be a license issue.

I am attaching the log as it may help to debug, although I'm afraid it hasn't helped me so far.

Thank you for any assistance,
Remi

Remi,

The problem is that you are using Windows 7 on a 32-bit OS. GO-Global only supports 64-bit. See the System Requirements here.

Aha, I should have checked this earlier, thank you.

What would be a usual workaround? Running it on another machine (not terribly convenient in my case), runnin it in XP mode?

Thanks,
Remi

You can use a virtual machine if that's an option. GO-Global supports VMware (vSphere, Workstation, and ESXI) as well as Microsoft Hyper-V and Xenserver.

Hmmm that may be above my IT skills I'm afraid.

May I just explain my setup and see if you have suggestions: we are a small charity (17 employees0, we have a server with Microsoft SBS 2011 (which is basically the same as Server 2008R2), and workstations running either Windows 7 or OS X. The reason we have Go GLobal is because we have some applications that only run on Windows (our fundraising system, project database, resource library, etc.), and we wanted Mac users to access these applications. Go Global has worked well for that.

However, setting up Go Global on the server itself was not practical, because some of these applications cannot run on the server (basically they are designed to run on a client). So it was more practical to put Go Global on a spare client computer. However now that we had to upgrade workstations from XP to Windows 7, it's not working anymore.

I'm wondering if I have missed something somewhere, and if it may be possible to put Go Global on the server, and run applications on a client?

Thanks,
Remi
