Problem running applications from mapped network drives 11 Years, 2 Months ago Karma: 0
I'm having problems running applications from mapped network drives (and UNC pathnames). Have a Windows 2003 SP1 server with Go-Global server loaded on it. Want to run applications on a Netware 5.1 server. Have loaded latest netware client but get error message “Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access them.” when trying to run applications. Same if trying to run e.g. notepad.exe from a Win XP share. The Cluster Manager says "User|Group settings not available" for apps on network drives.

Not using AD but this appears to be a security setting somewhere in windows as cant even run apps when logged on to system console.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

When login GGW with Netware client. If script not mapping X drive. You can using goglobal logon on script to maping the network drive. For example mapping network drive as Z:

build a bat file with your application file path
Ex:
--------------------
z:\ap.exe
exit
--------------------
publish the bat file with cmd.exe
the application will be run from Z:\ap.exe with you network path

Hi Jack
Tried your suggestion and it works when logged into the system console although had to set directory in batch file (ie
l:
cd \pbwin5
.\pbwin5.exe
exit
)
Doesn't launch anything from go-global although appears ok on go-global desktop now and can see permissions in CM.Get egg-timer then nothing.

Drive mappings appear to happen just can't launch apps.

Any other ideas?

If your bat execute file can work on goglobal desktop.
You need publish the bat file with cmd.exe

you can copy cmd.exe to c:\ProgramFiles
and using ClusterManager to publish this cmd.exe
Ex: execute Path--- c:\ProgramFiles\cmd.exe
command-Line Options--- /K "c:\ProgramFiles\ap.bat"

PS.ap.bat is your execute file ex:
z:\pbwin5.exe
exit

using goglobal logon script to map z: ex:
net use z: \\apserver\share\pbwin5

you will see file permission on CM in this cmd.exe
you can change the cmd.exe name and icon for your application name need.

Hi Jack

Have tried your suggestions.
In CM
Executable Path F:\Program Files\cmd.exe
Startup Directory: L:\Pbwin5
Command-line Options /k "F:\Program Files\test.bat"

Set up global login script to map L: even though mapping appears to be working ok. (Have published notepad.exe in CM and can run from Go-global desktop and save file to drive L:)

Run go-global client. Can see batch file on desktop. Double-click - brief egg-timer then nothing.
