TOPIC: option to open links and files locally

option to open links and files locally 11 Years, 4 Months ago Karma: 0
If the published application has hyperlinks and gives access to files then it would be nice to have an option to open certain file types and hyperlinks on the client side rather than server side. For example, clicking on a link would launch a browser on the users machine rather than the server. Also, attempting to open a file would automatically copy or save the file to the client drive then launch the file locally. There could be an option to prompt the user where to save the file before opening or just copy behind the scenes to a temp folder on the client drive then open the file.

Hooray! I am not the only one with this (great) idea!!! This functionality is not only convenient, but also very attractive for customers. For instance, many already bought licenses for MS Office on their work stations. This is a major barrier for them to buy double licenses for on the GG server. Opening a doc file in Word, for example. Every (named!) user needs a license for it on the server.

As soon as Kurt's idea is in, you could easily link the doc and docx extension to the local Office application. Major cost saver! Opening the way for centralizing through GG.

Uprank this feature request please!

As far as hyperlinks... based on what I've seen thus far, I think you'll see some (or most) of this functionality in the forthcoming 4.x release.

There is (today) a local client API which allow you to modify your ISV application and launch a local desktop process from GO-Global. If interested, talk to your local account rep for more information.
