TOPIC: Cant install!
#83
Cant install! 14 Years ago Karma: 0
I copied GOGlobal_UX_RHL72.tgz to my Sun-Cobalt Red Hat - based machine. After unzipping it, I run it, and it starts up. Then I get an error to the effect that the GraphOn Login Daemon failed.

How do I get over this problem?

Thanks

Normally, you should check the ${GOGLOBAL_ROOT}/etc/gold.log file for indications of why it is not starting up. Typically this indicates a problem with your license, which causes v2.1 to not start.

You could also be having problems with your database of published applications, but this is generally rare.

I'm slightly confused by how you installed, as well. You should have been using a ".bin" file, not a ".tar.gz" file. Installation of the product requires more than a simple "unzipping" so if that is really what you did, that could be your problem as well.

hum... there is no /etc/go* log file...

The file I sent to my linux box that I want to connect to from my PC is GOGlobal_UX_RHL72.tgz

I just did an unzip GOGlobal_UX_RHL72.tgz, which gave me "setup" and "files.tar". Then I did a ./setup and the installer started.

The location of the file would be off of the base directory that you installed GO-Global into. For example, if you installed into /usr/local/graphon, you would want to check in /usr/local/graphon/etc/gold.log.

This sounds like you might have renamed the file when downloading it, but essentially the file is the self-extracting "zip" file that runs "setup", so what you've done would seem to parallel the normal installation process adequately.

I really suspect that we should check the logs first, as whatever is preventing it from starting is probably there.

Troy, the only things I see under
[root@nfeyul2 graphon]# ls -ltr
total 4
drwxrwxrwt 2 root root 4096 Nov 7 21:25 run
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 19 Nov 10 19:54 libgolicense.so -> libflexlmlicense.so
[root@nfeyul2 graphon]# pwd
/usr/local/graphon

The run directory is empty.

For the benefit of anyone else having this problem in the future, I spoke to Jacques, and it turns out that you cannot unzip the files and run the installer by hand.

The file he had was the "GOGlobal_UX_RHL72.bin" file simply renamed. By making it executable and running it directly, he was able to successfully install in a matter of seconds.
