pkpui,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you -- it sounds like you may have set up your .cshrc/.profile files to unset the DISPLAY environment variable, because it doesn't appear to be set when run through our product. If you are doing this, try leaving it set, or guarding the unset with a check for the $GG_PEER (or $GOGLOBAL_ROOT) environment variable.

DISPLAY setting 13 Years ago
Hi,

Is it possible to use Go-Global and still have a $DISPLAY setting?
We like to have that to choose between normal X and Go-Global

Hello Jeroen,

I'm not sure if I understand your question... GO-Global has a DISPLAY setting and makes the same use as every other X server.

The problem that pkpui had arises when people assume that the DISPLAY will always be on a ":0" ... which it generally is on dedicated consoles or remote X servers. However, because of the GO-Global architecture, our DISPLAY is *never* ":0" (which we reserve for the console).

The bottom line is that you can hardcode your DISPLAY in your .profile, so long as you make your .profile aware of GO-Global sessions (using the $GG_PEER or $GOGLOBAL_ROOT variables) and then only apply the hardcoded DISPLAY if GO-Global is not in use.

Hope this helps, but let me know if it's not clear enough.
