TOPIC: Access applications without needing a password?

There is no mechanism for "pass-through" authentication at present. Inroads have been made in authenticating UNIX users against Windows domains, but this sort of functionality hasn't been in high demand in GO-Global. The best you can do you would probably be to hard-code the username and password parameters to the plugin object (the syntax for this is the same for Firefox as it is for IE, and note that the parameter names are the same as the command-line parameter names for the client), something like:

Code:

<object id="ggunix" type="application/x-ggunix-plugin">
  <param name="username" value="theuser">
  <param name="password" value="thepassword">
  <param name="host"     value="hostname">

  <!-- set to your port -->
  <param name="port"     value="491">

  <!-- the name of the app to launch -->
  <param name="launch"   value="Xterm">

  <!-- set to "tray" to hide the client UI
       in the system tray, set it to "hide"
       to hide the client UI altogether -->
  <param name="ui"       value="tray">

  <!-- disconnects from the host when no
       more sessions are left running -->
  <param name="closeconnection" value="true">

  <!-- exits client when no more connections
       are left running -->
  <param name="closeapp" value="true">
</object>

(Note that the "launch" value is the "Display Name" of the item as published in the GO-Configure UI, or the "name" value in the XML database.)

If you do this you will probably also want to disable suspended sessions (in ${GOGLOBAL_ROOT}/etc/gold.conf, set no_explicit_suspend=true, and suspend_age=0). Otherwise your users (who all appear to be the same userid on the UNIX system) will risk resuming each other's sessions.

Hope this helps,
Troy

Hey Troy,
Thanks for the info. Do you know how this would be used? I'm trying to use the included NPviewer.html file as a basis. I've attached the file if you could kind of help direct me in how to put it in. With the IPviewer.html file, it is all filled in already and I just needed to plug in my values.

Actually, I don't want "pass-through" authentication. I wasn't thinking before and I realize what I was being asked. With those parameters, I have been able to make it work with Internet Explorer by supplying the username, password, host and launch parameters. So, the whole GoGlobal authentication piece has been "automated" through the plugin. The end user never needs to enter the credentials or even know them.

Hello Troy,
I was just seeing if there are any updates to this. I wish Graphon had this stuff documented, but it isn't there. The only thing documented is the IPviewer.html file and how to use that one. None of those other parameters you listed above are in any document that I've seen.
thanks,
Joe
