Control-G (bell) forwarding to Windows-client 13 Years, 8 Months ago
Hi,

we are running GoGlobal on a UNIX server where some applications submit Control-G characters that usually result in a beep (like the margin bell in a terminal window). Is it possible to configure GoGlobal that the beep can be heard on a Windows client?

Thanks in advance,

Joerg.

Hello Joerg,

The functionality you're describing is actually partially dependent on the Terminal Emulator you're using withing the X Windows session (for example, xterm, dtterm, etc.).

The X protocol specifies a request that will cause the X Server to "beep", which in our case we cause to trigger the Windows "Default Beep" sound. However, we'll only play this sound if the X application (again, xterm, dtterm, etc.) tell us to.

The default sound on Windows is a "ding.wav" sound. In the absence of a sound card, it will instead play a "beep" on the PC Speaker.

Hope this information helps,
Troy
