Xlib error message for XInputExtension on NLD9/SuSE 10 Years, 7 Months ago Karma: 0
I am using Novell Linux Desktop 9 SP3 64 bit workstation with version 732 and Windows XP Pro client version: 2_1_5_732.

Running gnome or kde seems to work fine, except on several applications I get the following error:

Xlib: extension "XInputExtension" missing on display "<hostname>:1.0".
Failed to get list of devices

Sometimes the application continues but in the case of Konqueror it simply hangs until I kill the process. I've only seen one post similar but there was no response and have not been able to see any other similar issues on this forum. All applications run fine locally. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi Jeff,

I'm not sure what might be causing this. Generally speaking, the warning about the XInputExtension missing is normal as we don't support that extension, but usually this won't cause an X11 client to hang. Our testing on SuSE 9.x hasn't shown this either, although I don't know if we've specifically tried Novell Linux Desktop or if that's a different product even.

Note that while it's conceivable that our X server could be causing the problem, normally this type of problem is considered to be a bug in the X client. Since we haven't seen this in our testing, it may also be in the specific versions that you're running. I'm not sure if there are newer versions of Konqueror available to you or if you could consider upgrading, but that might help solve the issue.

I'm sorry that I can't offer any better suggestions.
