Our enterprise uses GG to connect to headnodes of clusters. The clusters are running RedHat 4.X with LSF (load sharing facility by Platform, Inc.). Our published applications through GG are either 1) Engineering visualization applications or 2) xterm which gets picked from the available pool of computenodes. Either way, the user will either launch a published application which picks an available computenode and launches the GUI application or the user picks an xterm (LSF picks an available computenode and returns xterm for that resource) and user manually invokes via command line the GUI.

Currently, we can manipluate our 3D models via standard 3 button mouse, but cannot manipulate the same with our SpacePilot 3D devices (SpacePilot model @ 3dconnexionstore.com/home.asp?CT=USR) on our 32/64 bit XP workstations through GG. These devices work fine on applications that are run "natively" on the XP workstations.

Is there unbeknowst to me currently a way of making this work or any plan to develop support for this in future releases? I've asked before but am not clear on your current enhancements in this regard.

Thanks for your time,

Greg

This kind of thing might be possible, but it's difficult to say how such an input device operates in the X11 world. You note that the device works well with native XP applications, I'd be curious to know if you've used it with native X11 applications on a Red Hat machine somewhere.

If it works well with native X11 applications, then it's likely that we could implement some level of support for it. It would appear to be an alternate input device, and we'd have to work out how to support it within our protocol, but it could be doable in that case.

We've used this device for quite a number of years, initially on HPUX (HP proprietary Unix) and more recently on Windows.
