Split X licenses into two groups in reduntant mode 7 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Hello,
I bought 67 license and my set is composed by 3 redundant servers.
I want split 67 licenses into two groups 42+25 and handle it separately with my 3 redundant servers.

This is necessary beacuse I have more than 67 clients and some of them (Clients called type A) must use "42 group" licenses and others (Client called TYPE use "25 group" licenses. If I make one license.dat with 67 licenses I can't reserve 25 licenses for Client TYPE B and 42 for Client TYPE A.

The goal is : when the 26th TYPE B client try to connect and 25 Type B clients are already connected, License server must refuse 26th TYPE B Client.

Have you got any suggestion how to configure this scenario?

Kind regards,
Simone

Simone,

The best option for you is probably to create an 'options' file that reserves licenses for particular users/clients.

If you review chapter 5 of the FlexNET End-User Guide, you'll find more detailed information, but you'll want to:

- Edit the license.dat and add to the "VENDOR" line the path to your options file.
- In the options file, depending on how you want to restrict license usage (by client IP or by user ID) you can create a HOST_GROUP (if by client IP) or a GROUP (if by user ID), and then add a "RESERVE" keyword to the options file.

For example, if I wanted to reserve 4 licenses for Troy, Erik, Rob, and Willo, because they all do support at times, I could edit my license.dat to include:

Code:

VENDOR blm options=/usr/local/graphon/etc/blm.options
Then, I would create that file, with the following contents:
Code:

GROUP Support troy robc erikt willow RESERVE 4 unix_session GROUP Support
Note that any licenses so "RESERVE"d are not available to users outside of the specified group, but I think this is what you want. In your case, you'd have to modify the license.dat on each of the redundant servers and install the options file on each of those servers as well. Please let us know if you have any further questions or problems. Thanks, Troy
